Ever since the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Phoenix and Peonies have been a consistent motif in Chinese art. Appearing only in times of peace and prosperity, the Phoenix totem symbolizes good fortune and opportunity.
The peony is the king of flowers and the phoenix is the king of birds. Together, these two become very auspicious and represent “forever love in a long lasting marriage”.
The phoenix are positioned on the left and right, facing each other with their wings fluttering elegantly in the wind, and are completed by dozens of peonies carved in exquisite detail.
